Help Please! ReadyNas Duo V2 continually rebooting after upgrade
My ReadyNas Duo V2 was working OK, but I saw it was not running on the most up to date firmware, so I decided to upgrade it. Big mistake, because it now will not boot up properly. It just continua...

Just to close-off this thread - there was no fix in the end, despite some useful suggestions from mdgm.
So the lesson is if you have a Netgear device that is nagging you for a firmware upgrade think long and hard before you do it. You might be unlucky and it might brick your unit like mine!
I'm going to avoid buying Netgear in future.

I forgot to say - I followed the process outlined in the V2 manual. Seemed to work OK as far as selecting the boot option, but so far the OS restore, Factory Restore and Service mode selections have all resulted in same result - just endless power cycling.

It's unfortunate but eventually all electronic devices will fail. Some last longer than others. You may get a different NAS from any brand and find it doesn't last as long or it could last longer. It depends. Just like if you buy enough computers (even of the one model) you will find that they last a range of different amounts of time.
It is recommended to install firmware updates for obvious reasons (they may include new features, bug fixes, security fixes and other enhancements. For legacy devices they may just contain security fixes). Firmware updates don't cause hardware failure. The hardware would have already been failing beforehand.

One heck of a big coincidence that it was working until I hit that "Upgrade" button though!
