Help restoring and/or accessing sparsebundle please

Hi all,

I set up my partner's 2010 MacBook (running Mavericks) to back up using Time Machine to my NV+ - it seemed to back up with no issues.

I got her the new MacBook Air last week and restored the backup from the NV+ - again no problems, until I discovered that the image library - which she adds to frequently - contained nothing from the last 10 months.

I'm trying to determine whether it's:

A) the Air contains the new images and is simply not displaying them

B) the Air doesn't contain the images but the backup does, and there was an issue during Restore

C) the backup doesn't contain the images and there was an issue during Backup

__

I really hope it's not the last one. We don't have the old machine any more.

Anyway, I finally reset the admin password on the NV+ and can log into it via Finder on my Mac Pro, but I can't locate or view the sparsebundle.

The CIFS option shows me two shares, backup and media. Neither of these contains any sparsebundles that I can see.
The AFP option shows me three shares: backup, homes and media. None of these contains any sparsebundles that I can see.

Please help if you have any advice on any of these issues.

Thank you so much.

Have to login to CIFS as the admin user and open the hidden .timemachine folder on the C volume

Or login to AFP using the TM credentials (user "ReadyNAS" - no quotes - and the password you specified in Frontview).
  • Logging in to CIFS as admin user only shows the two shares. I found your other posts regarding viewing hidden folder by:

    Go > Connect to folder > /Volumes/c/.timemachine

but that gives me "The folder can't be found".
  • Logging into AFP as ReadyNAS shows one folder called ReadyNAS - the sparse bundle appears to be in there!

Any advice on what to do next? The sparsebundle contains four tiny files (half a Kb each) and a folder called 'bands' which won't open, though it's still trying after 20 minutes, presumably because it contains thousands of items. Am I going to be able to browse the images? I planned to order them by date and see when the latest ones were added.
  • After half an hour or so, the 'bands' folder displayed its contents.

24,000 items at 8Mb each. No original filenames visible.

Sounds like you are using Share Security mode.

What version of RAIDiator are you running?
  • I was viewing the package contents rather than mounting the image.

If anyone else has this issue on a Mac, then just double-click the sparsebundle file and wait. It will mount eventually - depending on size of the file and speed of the computer. Mine was only 200Gb and I have a fast Mac Pro, but it was opening over the network which just made it very very slow.

Thanks for your help in finding the sparsebundle file, mdgm. I appreciate the help very much.
