well I contacted Netgear and they are unable to sell me a new PSU or offer any sort of repair but told me to buy a whole new chassis !
Considering the unit is 4 years old that is a major expense and seems a rip off
So I dismantled the PSU found a bulging capacitor and replaced it. It all seems to be working ok now except I can't switch the unit off or reboot using the web page, but I suspect this is another problem and not related as it was happening previously
