Clearing the cache doesn't seem to have helped. Still shows normal in RAIDar and Not Present in the config tool.
I do have a "backup" but unfortunately it was a 2TB LaCie external that has a faulty power supply. I was trying to avoid sending it in for repair as they'll charge me for it and may wish to format the disks. I bought this NAS in time to copy all data from the LaCie and back up two PCs before the LaCie stopped spinning up at all.
What would you suggest for an actual backup beyond this? I was tired of constantly playing the musical chairs game with hard drives. Always worrying about a failure and constantly copying files from one external to the next. A NAS seemed like a more elegant/intelligent solution for storing ~2TB of data.
I see some questions on the FAQ about mirroring NAS devices. I guess I will need TWO of these bad boys to be truly safe and redundantly redundant? :D Gosh this is getting expensive. I will shut-er-down for now then. Thanks for all the help. I guess I will wait and see what they suggest!
I suppose I should hang on to the "dead" drive as well until they've got me up and running again? In case something needs recovering? It needs to go back to the RMAgeddon, but that can wait until things are back to normal.
