So the support staff responded, but suggested I try hot adding the drive...so I booted up with the bad slot empty, tried adding the new drive that way. It changed the NAS indicator color to blue in RAIDar for a few minutes then it went to yellow and is showing that brand new drive as "dead"
i now have the RMA swap from WD, so I removed the drive showing "dead" [brand new] and replaced it with the second brand new drive. all are WD green caviar 2TB. same problem. it shows as dead.
is this possibly an indication that the NAS itself has a bad slot? if that was the case, i can dump my settings to disk and swap all the drives out to a new unit without losing data, right?
this is way more stressful than it needs to be. any advice is welcome. i hope the staff response isn't an indication of how long it will be between every communication.
