Help with email alerts - Error Code 5008010000

Hi,

I have an RN626X and am unable to send email alerts. My firmware is 6.10.10.

I am aware that some email systems that require Oath2 authentication cannot be used easily, but I have not been able to get any email system to function.

In every case, I get:

Cannot send a test message. Check Settings.
Code: 5008010000

I have tried Yahoo, Hotmail, rr.com/spectrum.net, gmail, proton etc.

Here is an example of my settings

User: USERNAME@yahoo.com
Password: MYPASSWORD
Email Provider: yahoo.com
SMTP Server: smtp.mail.yahoo.com
SMTP Port: 587
From: USERNAME@yahoo.com
Use TLS: X

I have also tried

SMTP Port: 465
Use TLS: O

I also tried generating an app password for Yahoo, and it did not work as the password either.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

  • I could not figure out how the extraneous entries got into my email alert list or what was causing the send errors, but I was able to get things working by:

    1. Removing all Alert Contacts

    2. Clicking the Clear button for the Alert configuration (this is probably what flushed the zombie addresses)

    3. Re-entering all e-mail fields

    4. Setting up an App Password for Yahoo, and using that password in the password field here.

Now the email sends, and I get a clear exit code in the log.

    Cheers

  • Did you copy/paste the password from Yahoo?  That always fails for me too.  I keep the password window open and manually type in the password with no spaces.  Works on my NG router, HP printer and Readynas Duo.

  • I was able to get it working after removing some of the contacts from the contact list.

There was an entry for each of these:
    Alert
    MYACTUALSERVERNAME

I don't know how if these are automatically added when setting up the NAS or if these are left over from a previous firmware version, as I cannot re-add them now.

I wonder if those were important or if anyone has any insight.

    Thanks

These are the "send" email addresses.  Since they weren't email addresses, the emails would have bounced.

Try adding your yahoo email address there.

Personally I also put my main email address (which is gmail).

I responded to this previously, but my message was apparently deleted. I replaced all of the email addresses in case that was why my message was deleted.

What I am concerned about is that there are still extraneous email addresses being used when attempting to send alert emails. These are not in the alert email contact list, but appear in the msmtp.log

        Sep 18 16:14:33 host=HostAddress tls=on auth=on user=UserEmail from=FromEmail recipients=Email_Address_1,Email_Address_2,Email_Address_3,Email_Address_4 Email_Address_5,Email_Address_6 Email_Address_7,Email_Address_8 smtpstatus=553 smtpmsg='553 5.1.3 Syntax error in recipient address' errormsg='recipient address Email_Address_1 Email_Address_2 not accepted by the server' exitcode=EX_DATAERR

There are actually only two email addresses in the contact list, the one that the message are actually being sent to, and one that it added for the sending account.

There are a total of three email addresses that appear in the error message that are not in the contact list at all and shouldn't even be on the system, and I cannot find where these are being pulled from, as they are not in alert.conf

If anyone has any ideas where these extraneous email addresses may be stored, I would appreciate your help so I can resolve this error.

        Thanks!

I have 3 "alert" contact spaces on my Duo.  I don't recall any of them being populated.  I only use one with my yahoo address.

You can't add them back as they are not valid email addresses.

So did any of them make it to your Yahoo account?

Again, they are supposed to be the email addresses you want the alerts sent to.  So if they are not valid emails addresses, you should delete them and not try to add them back.

In my case, the yahoo email address and my gmail address are listed, and my gmail does receive the alerts.
