There is a script that can be run from SSH that can usually fix this issue. But you should first insure that the problem was not created by a too-full OS partition, or the script could fail and make things worse. An OS partition that's approaching full should be reported in the log (and via email alert if you have them set up), but rapid onset can cause the notifications to also fail. Using this requires that you are comfortable with SSH access to the Linux command line, especially if it's necessary for you to clean out the OS partition and make room.
