Does anyone know to which Debian 6.8.1 is equivalent?

    We're using Debian Jessie.

If you're comfortable with SSH you can remove the firmware update download from the backend

    # cat /etc/.flash_update

Will tell you where the downloaded firmware is. You could remove that file and remove /etc/.flash_update file

    # rm /etc/.flash_update

This will stop the update from being installed on the next boot.

As Marty_M said we don't automatically update the firmware. There's always a popup that has to be agreed to before it's downloaded. I have several ReadyNAS including multiple 516 units and have always ahd to confirm I want to install an upgrade before downloading it.
