How long should backing up to USB take?
I'm a first-time backer upper, so if anyone can help me out, it'd be much appreciated. I have the NV+2 and I'm backing up 1.5TB from the NAS to an external USB3 2TB drive plugged directly into the ...
jonsenge I did as you some time back, and it took I think fully four (4) days to do the initial backup! I was shocked, but apparently the backup task is a low(er) priority for the NV+ and it just is slow. Subsequent to the initial backup, I am doing RSYNC updates on a weekly basis and sometimes that takes a couple hours, most times it's an hour or less, which is completely acceptable to me.
My USB drive is a 2TB also, but USB2 and formatted EXT2. I have Fast USB Writes set on now; can't recall if I had when I did the initial backup.
I think you'll do best to expect it's gonna take a few days, and then set-up RSYNC to backup only changes. Here's a link to my own experience, and there's another link in there that points-to the instructions I found (from mdgm himself I believe) that helped me a lot:

This reminds me I originally tried making my backup to and NTFS-formatted drive, which I did later use Puppy Linux to re-do to EXT2.
