How to add local folders to backup job Mac
Im having trouble to understand and find the correct option when im going to create a backup job on my local computer.
E.g If i want to backup selected folders under drive D:
What backup source do i need to choose from the dropdown menu, and what if the path list doesnt show my desired folders?
How about backup destination, whats host?
Would be allot easier to understand if it were as simple as a "normal" hd "this folder, to that folder"
Im not computer geek and i only know what i want to backup
System:
Imac 27 2011, OSX 10.8.2
NAS Ready NAS NV+ connected with eth cable on my wireless router, 4 disks, one timemachine occupies 1, or is it two of them?
I want a a raid that means if one disk fail, i can just pull it out and replace it with a new, and let the system take care of the reassembling, possible?

- daytonabeachAspirantI WANT MY MONEY BACK!!!
Such a crappy service and complicated product, only for pro network skilled people, and as you can see, no proper help or support are given, dont buy it!!!
The only use i have of a 2x3TB raid system, is one single backup map, its like buying a sports car with 500hp and only drive around in 20kmh, waste of money. A free Dropbox account or similar with free backupsoftware would serve you better, not the mention all the money you save... - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredHave you tried running the backup job anyway even though it gave an error? You need to know what the path is. e.g. if the user on your Mac is "daytonabeach" you might put "daytonabeach/NASBackup"
A problem though is that in 10.8 (I think) Apple updated it's implementation of sharing with Windows machines which has probably broken compatibility with old versions of the samba client.
In 4.1.9 NetGear updated the samba service (i.e. when you are on your Mac - the client in this case - in the Finder you connect to the NAS over CIFS - the protocol that would also be used accessing the NAS from a Windows machine) however they didn't update the samba client (which is used by backup jobs which use the Windows/NAS option. In this case the Mac would be the server).
If running the backup job anyway doesn't work you could try the following:
1. Install EnableRootSSH: http://www.readynas.com/?p=4203 (you need the Sparc add-on)
2. Install the APT add-on: http://www.readynas.com/download/addons/4.00/APT_1.0.bin
3. SSH into the NAS and do
# apt-get update && apt-get install smbclient
4. Try running the backup job again.
These are advanced steps though. - daytonabeachAspirantIT DOESNT WORK!
THIS SYSTEM IS NOT COMPATIBLE WITH MAC.
It works like a poor beta version.
Not even the Time Machine backup are stable, after a month or two, TM doesnt find the disk anymore, and everything has to be setup again, with the result of loosing months of TM backup.
Two regular HD would do a much better job, and cost half the price.
Dont waste your money on this system if youre on Mac...
I suggest you spend your money and time on developing a software that makes it work NETGEAR, and you would gain allot more customers.
If i could, i would ask for a full refund, but i guess thats out of the question. - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee Retired4.1.11 beta includes an update to the AFP/Time Machine support. Can you try that? See http://www.readynas.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=59222
If not, can you try the production release which will hopefully be out soon.
