You may have mis-read or misunderstood the post(s) you are referring to as NFS is only for network access - often used for backing up to a 2nd NAS rather than USB
So unless you are trying to backup data over a network to a USB drive connected to the NAS (or from the USB drive to another networked device) then you do not need to use NFS at all
Thanks for your answer. This is what I thought, and yes it is a USB-HDD directly connected to the NAS.
