How to format a USB drive > 298mb
Sorry if this isn't the right forum for this question. I'm happy to move it if there's a better place.
I have a 3tb USB3 external drive which I've connected to my Ultra4. I'm trying to format it so I can set it up as a backup destination. I've not been very successful at formatting it yet.
It used to be an HFS+ volume, but I've wiped that out to the best of my abilities. When I select Format EXT4, it chews on things for a while and comes back with a volumes that only holds 298mb!
I've tried the other formats but haven't had any luck getting the whole 3tb. Any advice?

- StephenBGuru - Experienced Userwhat firmware are you running?

- perverseosmosisAspirantAny ideas? I've tried this a few more times with a few different file systems and can't get it to crack 300mb. Does it need a special master boot record? I think it's formatted with a GUID Partition Table. Does 4.2.22 not work with that?
If this isn't the right forum, I'm happy to repost this someplace else. - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserIt kind of sounds like the NAS is detecting it as MBR not GPT. On a Windows PC I'd suggest deleting the volumes/partitions. Though I am not sure how to do that on a Mac.
- dhlLuminaryI'm having the same problem. Just tried formatting a 4TB Seagate Backup+ USB disk to do some backup on my Pro 6. When I try formatting EXT4, it says the volume is only 298mb.
I tried repartitioning in the Mac OS Disk Utility. Tested every partitioning option, but every time I connect the disk and try to format on the ReadyNAS, it only sees 298mb.
Is this an issue with my Pro's USB hardware or low level firmware?
Is there a way I can format the Seagate Backup+ that will fix the problem?
ReadyNAS Pro Flame B version 1.1 motherboard
RAIDiator 4.2.26
Any advice?
Thanks!
