How to format and link my disks?
Hi, everyone.
I have a ReadyNAS Duo. I've put in two identical 1-terabyte disk drives.
What I want to do is to somehow link the two drives in a RAID configuration (I'm not sure whether to mirror or combine them), format the drives, and make them available to my Mac as a Time Machine volume. Here are the screens I'm getting:

Thanks in advance,
Richard

- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredThe disks will need to be wiped: http://www.readynas.com/kb/faq/boot/can_i_use_the_disk_s_that_were_previously_used_in_a_pc_or_mac
Please go to System > Update > Factory Default and do the factory default
Then you can setup Time Machine following this guide: Easy Time Machine Setup with the ReadyNAS
Welcome to the forum! - RichardcavellAspirantThanks, it works perfectly.
- Learoy1Aspirantok, my disk failed in the readynas so i removed the 1tb disk out of my sky+ box. I've now installed this disk into the readynas hoping it would automatically format it and get up and running, it didn't.
on starting raidar it has no option to go to frontview (setup button is shaded grey) and it says disks are not present under the disks column and bad disks detected on end column .on the duo the power button flashes, green led flashes very quick.
have i done something wrong? what should i be doing? any help appreciated.
i swear this duo is causing bad disks, ages ago i bought a new 2tb hard drive and installed it, bad disk. admittedly it was from a shady website so i didn't do anything about it. now the readynas says the disk i bought around 2 years ago is now bad. now i've put in another disk, bad disk. it was fine 10 minutes earlier in the sky box??? I've had nothing but headache with this thing, is it just my duo that is sh** or are all netgear products rubbish? - ReadySECUREApprenticeI would suggest testing the drives via the manufacturer's tools if you believe the disks are okay. The NAS should be shut off at the time of removal, and after testing, if the drive comes back ok then it could be something with the chassis or firmware side.
Have you opened a support ticket for this yet?
What version of the firmware is on the Duo?
Was the drive that you took out of the skybox on the HCL for the Duo?
- I ask because the main reason many don't make the list is because they aren't compatible. - Learoy1Aspiranti'll try testing them if i can.
No I haven't contacted support yet, not sure what they'll do for me. The drive that packed in was definately on the list, a seagate one. the firmware is updated to latest one.
I haven't checked the the new drive out of the sky box as i haven't found the list yet is surprisingly good, a western digital 1.5tb
Model: WDC WD15EVDS-68V9B0
Serial: WD-WMAVU2546694
Firmware: 01.00A01
Also, I have managed to get the sky drive to work, i tried a few combinations of turning off/on and removing/reinstalling drive, eventually something worked and it booted up.
thanks for your help, I really appreciate it.
I backed up all my important stuff so that's safe and sound but there's still plenty of stuff on the failed disk i would like to recover, is this possible? i managed to recover stuff on an external drive before but because the nas uses different file system or something I guess this would complicate things further?
