How To Get Control Of Directory in XP?
Somehow, I have managed to create and populate a directory on my Ultra-6 that cannot be deleted or moved by Windows XP.
The creation process is something I've done hundreds of times when ripping DVDs, but I must have fat-fingered this one somehow.
XP | Properties | Security shows this:
But all the "Allow" and "Deny" checkboxes are disabled.
Similarly, when I click "Advanced" it lists several entities, but none of the are editable:
Can anybody suggest how I might have done this to myself?
Any way to regain control?

- I'm not sure how you did it, but there are two ways you can try to fix it.
The first is to log into frontview, and select "shares", then "share listing" on the left. Click on the CIFS icon for your particular share. Then select the "advanced options" tab at the top.
Set the owner/group appropriately (I use "nobody" and "nogroup") and also the access rights (I use "read/write" for all).
check the box next to "Set ownership and permission for existing files and folders in this share to the above settings. This option is useful in cases where you are changing security levels and need to workaround file access problems."
Then click "apply" at the bottom right. The checkbox will clear, and you will get a pop-up when the ownership is reset.
The second way is to enable http access to your share, and try to delete the folder with the browser interface. (http://nasname/shares).
These two ways only apply if the folder is in a public share. If the folder is in your home (private) share, you can install an add-on which will reset the owner/permissions. FWIW, when I brought up "Advanced", Share folder owner: was set to "B". Funny thing is that there is no user "B" defined. Tried changing it to "Admin" and the dialog did an autocomplete - as if it knew about the ID... but threw something like "Illegal ID" when I tried to save it.
Then I went to Security | User & Group Accounts to see what IDs were defined and chose one of them.... then it worked.
