How to give restricted access without a password prompt?

Hi,

Is it possible to give different Windows users restricted access to the ReadyNAS without them being prompted for a password? There's no Active Directory on the network, they just log into their machines using local Windows accounts..

Thanks!

  • make sure the username/password is the same on both the nas and the client

    then add/create the group that will have restricted access, then add that to the read only section in the shares permissions tab.

    ie
    user1 is in admingroup
    user2 is in restrictedaccessgroup

    share: secretstuff
    default access = none
    share access restrictions: admingroup = write access
    restrictedgroup = read only
    guest = disabled

    if you have existing data in the share, you may need to go to the share advanced tab, click 'set ownership and permission..' then apply
