How to properly force fsck of root partition
I have a bad file in my root partition filesystem. I've renamed the folder containing it aside but it's a nuisance because it causes commands like du to error. By bad file I mean it shows ? for all permissions bits etc and it cannot be deleted. It's not an odd filename or anything as simple as that. I've tried all the tricks I know to remove a bad file inode, but I think I need to fsck the root partition. I could touch /forcefsck, but I wanted to know if that is the recommended way. Or tune2fs?

btw mdadm check passes so it is not a bad disk. Up until recent versions I was getting periodic system hangs after btrfs stack traces. They cleared up with a release early this year and my system can run for months now, which is great. But this bad file has been lingering around from that os rev that gave my system fits.
