How to read X-Raid drive on PC?

It is possible to access the RAID array in an x86 linux system (assuming enough USB or SATA connectors). The procedure is here: http://home.bott.ca/webserver/?p=306
If you don't have a backup, you could also try paid support at support.netgear.com
OK, so I would hook the four drives up to a PC with linux installed and then run the commands on that link you provided? I had seen that link in my research but I was unsure if that would work on a 4 drive X-Raid or only for a single drive.
Should I back up the drives using Clonezilla first so I have a backup of them in case I do anything wrong trying to read them on a PC?
