How to reinstall OS with existing disks
Hi
I have a ReadyNas that has root "problem". The ReadyNas has 2 disks consisting of data that I do not want to lose.
I have read that I should do a OS reinstall. After that has been done I get a meny in the prog. RAIDar that says "install".
Should I do the installation with my existing disks inside the ReadyNas or should they be removed during the installation?
I do not want to lose any data.....
My aim is to be able to access the disks after I have done the reinstallation of the OS, Correct?
Thanks in advance and Best Regards / Per

The OS is installed on the disks, so you must have them present. Just be sure you are really doing an OS re-install, not a factory default. The former does not erase your data, the latter does.
Of course, something can always go wrong (and not just because you are doing a re-install), so you really need a backup.

Note that an OS reinstall will change the admin password back to the factory default value (which depends on the NAS model). It will also reset the NAS to use DHCP.
It will solve some "root problems" but not others. In particular if the root partition is nearly full, it is a very bad idea to run the OS reinstall.

Then follow Sandshark's advice and back it up. RAID is not enough to keep your data safe. You need at least one copy on a different device.
