I can't get windows share to work

Yes the users are created on the nas.
So are you telling me, if I don't have the user account credentials same as windows, I can't login to nas? wouldn't this work:
username: ipaddressofnas\username
password: password
and why do you think that it works for 1 specific user name, i.e. xav (I am not logged in as xav on my windows machine), the only thing special about xav is that in the inital nas setup I gave him the only r/w over the share "other" then I removed it to have the above mentioned setup.
