The 102 uses a flash to store the install image. Once you insert a disk and boot, the disk is wiped (3 partitions are created : one for the system, one for swap and one for data) then image is extracted to the system partition.
So if you want to poke around, you would need a SATA disk that you can erase (if it's not empty, use factory reset with the disk inserted).
