Insanely slow copying 106GB from Mac Mini to NV+

Long-time ReadyNAS+ users, recently started using a Mac Mini. Trying to copy my iPhoto Library to the NAS to free up 100GB of storage space (I've got a lot of photos.)

When I initiate a copy of the 106.57 GB file, I expected it to take several hours. But OSX is estimating 268(!) hours. Clearly something is wrong. By my math, that's less than 7MB per MINUTE. Clearly, something major is hosed.

I'm connected to the NV+ via AFP. Everything is running at gigabit speeds - switch is Dell 2708. Mac Network Utility reports 0 packets lost.

Mac Mini is running Snow Leopard.
NV+ is running 4.1.7, and four Seagate ST31500341AS (on the HCL - we checked).

How can I make things run at normal speeds?

Thank you.

- Albert

(An aside: My overall impression of the NV+ after several years of use is that it's reliable, but that the software is dreadfully slow, and that it's probably the pickiest piece of hardware I've ever experienced. (Only works with some drives. Only works with some networking gear, etc.) Opening up the web-based management console is slow. Copying files is slow. Everything is SLOW.)
