IP Address

For years, my unit booted up as 10.0.1.9.  Suddenly it became 10.0.1.5.  I get back from vacation and now it's 10.0.1.36.  Every time it changes, iTunes loses contact with it.

Is there a way to fix the IP address?

Based on the IP address you listed 10.0.1.xx, I assume you are using an Apple Airport router (Extreme or Express).  This often happends if the router had to be restarted due to a firmware upgarde or some other reason.  I had this same issue and as mentioned below, the best solution is to assign the desired IP address to the Airport router.

Before you start, go to the ReadyNAS Admin page and click on the Network tab.  Find the MAC address of the Network Interface Card ("NIC") that is active.

Go into the Airport Utility (Applications>Utilities>Airport Utility) and click on the Airport router and then click Edit.

Click on the Network tab and you will see a box labeled DHCP Reservations.  Click on the "+" sign below the box.

    Enter the following information:

Description - Enter a name for the reservation.  I used the name of my ReadyNAS

Reserve Address By - Make sure MAC Address is selected.

MAC Address - Enter the MAC address for the ReadyNAS NIC you located previously.

IPv4 Address - Enter the IP address you want to assign to the ReadyNAS.

Click Save and then Click Update.

    The Airport router will restart.

If you assigned the current IP address that was asigned to your ReadyNAS you should be all set.  If you assigned a different address, you may need to restart the ReadyNAS to ensure it picks up the newly assigned address.

Once thi sis done, you shouldn't have any further issues with the IP address of the ReadyNAS changing.

    Hope this helps.

    Regards,

    There are a few ways:

    1. (Preferred) - Assign a static I.P. to the MAC address of the NIC in your NAS in your router's settings. This way if you change routers you don't need to reconfigure anything; or
    2. In the web admin interface of the NAS configure a static I.P. for the NAS. Be sure to specify the DNS server address setting correctly.
