iSCSI Connection & GlobalSAN iSCSI Initiator

I had this working with my ProPioneer after a few tries. However I've taken it all to bits now as I'm not using my Mac Mini any more. As I recall I did not use the extra authentication options (CHAPS ?) and I also did select the two options that are listed on the globalSAN initiator page in System Preferences under : iSCSI Options. Try these.

Hi, can anyone confirm that the GlobalSAN product is $89?
I got the the download page from this NETGEAR support article (http://www.readynas.com/?page_id=815).
I thought I would find that the product was free. It seems they just give a 14 day trial.
Then what?

Has anyone tried KernSafe, which is free?

It used to be free for personal use, but later on that changed. I suspect the Netgear KB article is old. http://alternativeto.net/software/globa ... x/changes/ gives some history.

Is there a particular reason that you want to use iscsi?

I thought it was the preferred method to use the NAS, no?

I wouldn't say its "preferred". One issue is that you can only connect an iSCSI LUN to one device at a time.

AFP, NFS, and CIFS will all work with the NAS (and I believe all are supported by macs). Though I only have windows machines - there are other posters here who are mainly mac users who hopefully will chime in.

I'm a complete noob on this (NAS setup), so if I have something wrong, please correct me.

The other advantage I saw from the support article is that it seems to allow me to format it as an HFS+ partition which I understand is required for iPhoto.

I'm not a mac user, but I did see these two links:

It looks like HFS+ is recommended by apple, but not really required.

However, there is no reason why you can't try KernSafe and iscsi.

No there aren't. But I'll take your comment as a "thank you" anyway!

I would not do either. SMB2 or NFS are ways to go. iSCSI with Mac is... weird :)

PS Kernsafe is a piece of ... My both Pro and Air crash with it. GlobalSAN install and run flawlessly.
