Issue between OS6 and Macs

Hi,

I've been trying to setup a new ReadyNAS 316 for my company during the last week and I've hit several issues.

OS6 user password change - viewtopic.php?f=23&t=71146
Is ReadyCLOUD ready to use? - viewtopic.php?f=23&t=71171

There is a further problem I have come up against which may just be a simple config thing. Our office is mainly Mac based, but we have a few windows machines. When browsing on the macs we see the NAS appear in three places in Finder: as an APF device, an SMB device and another which has the PC icon but no sharing identity. All three connect as user guest but the AFP doesn't show the share named Capsule, the others do. Why would that be?

  • Hi...

Not sure why but from my limited ReadyNas experience>>> I'm sure I have read that in a mixed (PC & MAC ) set up you should only use SMB. If your using TimeMachine I would turn off AFP on the individual shares, if not disable AFP in the on the ReadyNas ..

You have the AFP advertisement for AFP, the SMB advertisement for SMB/CIFS. The other advertisement is for Time Machine (if enabled) or if not the advertisement of SMB/CIFS to Windows Machines.
  • Hi thanks for the info - I'll switch off afp on the individual shares and see if that makes any difference. The reason for the the Capsule share not turning up under AFP was a simple config issue in the end - I didn't have anonymous access enabled under the afp protocol - and it is set per protocol.

    Steviep,
You don't allow anonymouns access when you enable AFP protocol for Capsule, you connect as guest, you can not see the Share ,
if connect as other user which be allowed Read Only or Read/Write , you will see the Share.
In Samba protocol, if you don't allow anonymouns access, you can see the Share only, but you can not access it.
