Item on USB drive cannot be deleted as it is in use
Yesterday, I was copying something from my ReadyNAS 102 to the USB HDD connected to it when for some reason, it stopped copying.
I tried to delete the item and its enclosing folder but I got an error saying it can't be deleted because it is in use.
I moved it to a folder called 'Trash' to deal with later and tried copying again, this time successfully and when I tried to delete the folder called 'Trash', I get this error:
The operation can’t be completed because the item “Trash” is in use.
I have tried restarting the ReadyNAS, rebooting my Mac, connecting the USB drive directly to my Mac and tried deleting it via the web interface but nothing works.

- NhellieVirtuosoTry rebooting the NAS first, if you can move your files out of the HDD I believe you can just reformat it.
- LeofwineTutorReformatting a 2TB drive with 1.4TB of data on it is not an option. I'd rather the 7GB folder sat there for eternity.
- StephenBGuru - Experienced UserDid you try ejecting the drive, and reinserting it?
- LeofwineTutorYes, I have tried that several times on both my Mac and ReadyNAS 102.
I forgot to add to my previous post, in response to Nhellie, that I mentioned in my first post that I have rebooted the ReadyNAS but it didn't work. - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserHow is the drive formatted?
You are saying you connected the USB drive to the mac and can't delete the file there? - LeofwineTutorIt's NTFS.
Yes, I connected it to my Mac. I have Tuxera NTFS installed so I can write to NTFS formatted disks. - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserIf you can't delete it on the Mac either, you might need to connect to a windows PC and do a file system repair.
- LeofwineTutorOK, thanks. It might be some time before that happens as I am a bit isolated.
- StephenBGuru - Experienced UserYour tuxera software might include a repair utility - http://tuxera.com/mac/onlinehelp/en/ind ... ystems.htm
- LeofwineTutorIt's a bit disruptive to disconnect the USB drive - I'll probably try this next weekend.
