OK - had a go, and this is what worked for me.
- followed instructions to open PuTTY command window
- I had to change to the "default directory" - cd /etc/default - otherwise I could not copy the file
- then copied file services to an accessible directory (cp services /wherever you want/filename)
- edited this file in Notepad++, being careful to save it as a general file type (I stuck with all files in the "save as" dialogue)
- from PuTTY, copied file back to NAS (cp /wherever you want/filename /etc/default/services
After reboot, I could log in to Firefly Media Service as described above.
For whatever reason, that worked for me whilst the earlier instructions failed to find the right services file to copy. No doubt due to ignorance on my part.
With reference to the /etc directory in my earlier reply, there is a services file there too, but it lists all the port allocations, so not the right target.
Hope this is of help to someone. Thanks to mgdm and StephenB for their prompts which led to a solution for me at least.
