Just got a 102... Stick with it?
Hello Everybody!
I've been in the market for a NAS for awhile, and in the end the choice came down to either a Netgear 102, or a Zyxel NSA325.
I went for the Netgear, not just because of the performance and test results I've read about, but also because there was an app store for the Readynas, which might greatly expand its functionality, and give more streaming options.
The results so far have not been encouraging...
The 102 often give me problems if I leave it alone for awhile, and try to log on from another (or the same) computer.
The Genie store doesn't work properly. (Yet somehow I've managed to install a handful gf apps. Don't ask me how, lol!)
When I go into the Genie store, it recognizes my 102 through the "My Devices" tab, yet somehow I'm told that "No Matches Found"... WTH?!?
On top of that, it seems that most of the Streaming apps I originally got it for, either doesn't work or have been removed. Great!
Considering I only got it Monday, I should be able to take it back to the store and get the Zyxel. (Or look around for a lightly used Synology...) Or do you guys think that it's worth sticking with the ReadyNas, and that the app/streaming/bug situation will improve significantly?
I guess a third option would be to downgrade the ReadyNas102 (Though it would feel and look like an upgrade to me!) to Raidiator... It looks like there are a lot of third party apps available for 4.x-5.x Radiator OS. Is that even technically possible? Thanks for your time!

- TonVAspirantHi, just my 2 cents, the RN102 and RN104 are nicely built from a hardware perspective; the software is still very new but improving step by step...
If that is fast enough for your taste is up to you :-)
About streaming apps, you have to consider that in this price range you should not expect full transcoding apps to work, the ARM processors are simply not powerful enough for this, be it Netgear or Zyxel or others... (I'm not sure about the Atom base NAS devices, they probably can transcode 'basic' stuff, but I seriously doubt if they are fast enough to transcode 1080p material...)
I stream my media to a PC or dedicated streaming device, using my RN104 purely as file server, this works brilliantly, plenty of speed to view true blu-ray movies of 40 GB!
Overall I'm really pleased with the RN104, some rough edges, but hopefully that will improve over time...
(Disk spin down is supposed to become available in 6.2.0 is the most important for me).
About apps, QNAP and Synology seem to have a gazillion of them, but I don't see the use of most of them...
Downgrading to older Radiator versions is not possible btw...
Hope this helps! - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserDKNAS - have you upgraded to the current firmware?
Also, can you tell us more about what streaming you need? What players, Apple, DLNA or CIFS/NFS, whether you need transcoding, etc? - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredDon't use Genie Apps. Turn it off and use the Available Apps list in the Dashboard.

Are there apps on Genie that aren't available in the App list? Is there another location to download them manually, if Genie is to be disabled?- StephenBGuru - Experienced UserYou can install them manually, using the manual firmware update function in the web ui.
https://rnxtras.com/ and the dropbox link here: https://www.readynas.com/forum/viewtopi ... 36&t=70914 are two other sources of add-ons.
You can also manually install the standard apps from here: http://apps.readynas.com/pages/?page_id=9
