LMS on latest ReadyNAS products?
Just found out about the new ReadyNAS product line. First question that came to mind is: is Logitech Media Server (LMS) still supported on this platform?
I currently am very happy with my NVX but I was just curious about the above should I ever want to upgrade.

- gregb_proAspirantI've been running LMS 7.8 on a Wandboard for many months, using ReadyNAS Pro as a file server. Although it's not as responsive as LMS native on a ReadyNAS Pro, it is tolerable. It demonstrates a 10W singleboard can host LMS and still use latest ReadyNAS products (which is the point of this thread). Here are my setup notes (this assumes a share called "media" on readynas contains music):
Create "mediaro" user (or desired username) on ReadyNAS device, with appropriate permissions and group memberships. I chose a read-only setup. This example assumes ReadyNAS hostname is "rnas". Login to Wandboard (via ssh):
> sudo mkdir /media
> sudo mount -t cifs //rnas/media /media
> ls -l /media/Music | head
> sudo nano /etc/fstab
Add this line in the CIFS section (match username from ReadyNAS):
//rnas/media /media cifs ro,user=mediaro,pass=<password>,auto 0 0
Substitute "<password>" to match password for username on ReadyNAS. - ShardstratAspirantLMS 7.9 is now happily running on the Wandboard. Just as an example, reading my root Music folder now takes between 2 and 4 seconds, whereas on the NV+'s processor it takes 15 to 37 seconds.
I spent two days trying to get the CIFS share on the NV+ mounted where the Wandboard running Arch Linux could see it, as you can see in the Logitech forum thread I linked to in my last post. The problem seems to be in Arch's implementation of CIFS. The Frenchman who pointed me to the solution said I ought to try mounting the share in NFS instead of CIFS. Is that possible on the NV+ with RAIDiator 4.1.14? Do you know where a(n old) newbie like myself would go to get help?
(To give you an example of how hard it can be for us "Windows power users", I tried to join an Arch Linux forum so I could ask about my mount problems, and instead of a CAPTCHA I had to answer this question:
What is the output of "date -u +%V$(uname)|sha256sum|sed 's/\W//g'"?(Required)
Needless to say I couldn't. Luckily I found a French Arch forum where the question was simply "Enter a basic Linux command". I joined and that's where I found my answer.)
