Lost all my data on my RN104 - anything I can do?
I've got a ReadyNAS 104 that has lost all my data. After receiving an error message that stated one of my drives was having issues, the front panel locked up but I could still see my shares and files...

it's not the readynas not giving you warnings. A disk can fail with no warning. A disk could live years with 50 bad sectors and another could die the day after it reported 1 bad sector. Netgear cannot mark a disk as 'bad' with just a bunch of bad sectors or half of the disks on the field should be replaced.
The bottom line is: RAID is not infallible. You cannot trust it 100%.
