Low resolution of images streamed to DirecTV Mediashare

I've got ReadyDLNA 1.0.24.4 installed and configured on my Pro 6 (4.2.21-T4) and using my HR21 DirecTV DVR, am able to see the NAS and the images share that DLNA is setup to stream. Though the DirecTV mediashare service quickly displays the folders on the NAS and loads images from it, all of these images are displayed full screen but in extremely reduced resolution. They are practically not recognizable and the images on the NAS are high resolution (10+ Megapixel).

I can find no settings on the NAS nor on the DirecTV that would seemingly affect image resolution and searching both the DirecTV website as well as the Internet in general, I can find nothing about this. There were a few (maybe 3) postings by others complaining of similar things but with no explanations or resolutions posted.

As a test, I wanted to try streaming these images to my Windows 7 PC using Media Player, but everytime I try, after connecting to the NAS, it crashes the PC. I don't seem to have another DLNA client to test with so I don't know if this is somehow the DirecTV or what.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Jonathan

  • The DTV must be asking for that resolution. We can serve small, medium, large depending on what the client asks for.

If you can, install the Debug toggle add-on from viewtopic.php?f=76&t=27946, then view some photos on the DirecTV box. Then download the system logs from FrontView>Status>Logs>Download All Logs, and submit them with the 'Send All Logs' link in my signature. With that info, we can see what the DTV is asking for, and possibly add some work arounds.
  • Got them, having our DLNA guru (Skywalker) take a look.

Can you give this addon a try? It's only asking for the thumbnail. I've seen another device blindly ask for the last image resource, instead of choosing the optimal one. If your device behaves the same, then this addon should help.
  • Thanks Skywalker. I installed the new add-on and tried it again but the images are still being displayed in low resolution. Now, I did not reboot the NAS as the installation didn't make me do so. Is that something I should have done? By the way, do you want me to send more logs?

    Thanks,
    Jonathan

It shouldn't require a reboot. But taking a look at the new logs would help.
