Curious as well, our ReadyNAS Duo 2000 exhibits similar problems at times. I'm running Win 7 (32bit) and see it rebuild the "buffer" when I get a lost connection. Our XP machine losses it at times as well (haven't logged it to see if they're happening at the same time though). So far nothing a double click on the mapped drive icon doesn't fix, but I can understand the need for the application to see a valid mapping. I'm also running Windows Backup from my local to the NAS once a week and haven't seen that fail yet.
So far that has been our only real complaint with the ReadyNAS Duo. I have checked the FrontView to insure the unit is NOT going into a scheduled power down / idle mode. I wonder if the "green" Seagate drives are doing it through bios mode though? They are two 1Tb Seagate ST31000528AS set for RAID level 1 (or X-RAID).
