Sep 02, 2016Maximum storage capacity for RN316
I know there are other topics covering this, but not for the model I'm looking at. I've noticed conflicting information on what maximum, storage capacity is supported by the RN316. For instance, looking at the technical specs on Netgear's product site, it shows the RN316 supports up to 60TB, and is expandable up to 128TB using external units.

The chart here however shows differently (hoping it's outdated). According to this, the same model supports only 24TB max and is expandable up to 64TB with external units.

Furthermore, Amazon's listing says it has a 4TB limit on each bay, but the hard drive compatibility shows it supports 6 even 8TB drives (including the 6TB WD Red drives I ordered). So I'm a little confused.
Are the capacity limitations bound to older hardware, or is this something that's been upgraded over time through firmware updates to ReadyNAS OS 6? I purchased six 6TB drives for my RN316, and planning to use RAID6--so a physical capacity of 36TB and an actual/loglcal capacity of 24TB. Can anyone confirm if that configuration would be supported by this model? Thanks
When the RN316 was first released 6TB disks were not available. Once we were able to test them and qualify them and add any improvements needed to the firmware to work well with them we were able to add some 6TB disks to the compatibility list.
10TB disks are starting to become available now. As for which models this capacity will be tested against or work with, it remains to be seen.
