I'm pretty sure the PSU failed on its own ... we have a very stable 230V AC supply here in Somerset, UK. Perhaps a filtered outlet would provide a smoother waveform though.
Although [lightbulb moment] the PSU might have failed due to a failure of a component in the NV+ circuitry ... in which case the NVX PSU would then be at risk if I fitted it. I'll see if the NV+ PSU is repairable first.
