Mount directories from multiple NAS into a single directory

I have put this into a general question rather than a specific share issue

What I would like to do is consolidate/mount media folders/directories from a number (growing) of separate READYNAS units into one mount point.

I have tried using mount ... etc and then adding the line into fstab to mount on boot which works but but fails to see sub directories . On investigation I am hitting an issue called recursive mounting which is only allowed in NFS4 I believe

So what I want to do is a have a top level directory called "Media", mounted on NAS00, for example which contains mounted directories media01( NAS1), media02 (NAS 2), media03 (NAS3) and so on with each separate mediaNN (from each separate NAS) each having sub-directories based on genre for example.

You can do this in Synology systems via SAMBA but I would like to use NFS as it has a higher data transfer rate for my application. All I can find for Linux is references to unhide in the bind command which I have tried and failed and then additional packages such as aufs which is something derived from Unionfs.

I have read that it may be possible via symlinks rather than mounts?

I am a linux novice but I can do some basic things and follow instructions from a crib sheet so if any one can point me in the right direction.

The context for this question is that I currently mount each separate NAS directory to a media player. So in the media player I have a startup script with about 10 mount points mounting the individual units. The idea is to consolidate this so that I have one mount point in the script on the media player which points to one NAS (the controller) which holds all the mounted directories/subdirectories.

I hope I have explained this sufficiently and some one can provide an answer or some pointers
