Movie/Video Embedded Artwork when served to PS3
Hi folks,
I'm hoping the wider ReadyNas forum fraternity (particularly the Jedi Council) are able to help me out on a query/fault I have with my new Duo v2 (definitely is a Duo v2 btw)
My setup is:-
Apple TimeCapsule/DSL Router
linked to:-
Netgear GS608 8-port Gigabit switch (unmanaged)
which then links out to:-
ReadyNas Duo v2 with 1x2tb Samsung HD204UI drive (on compatibility list)
- running RAIDiator 5.3.7 and using X-RAID2
Sony PS3 used for playback of Pictures and Video/Movie content from NAS device.
Onkyo TNXR509 Home Theatre amp (DLNA compliant client device i use for music playback from NAS device)
Background:-
After a couple of factory resets which were necessary to get the DLNA service working properly, first the whole ReadyNas didn't work at all, then the DLNA service didn't update itself properly, then after the 3rd factory reset it looked like things were now working.
However i've come across a quirk that must be with connected with the specific way the implementation of DLNA services has been developed on the ReadyNas when it serves Movie/Video content.
Previously, i was able to take a m4v video file and, using iTunes, embed custom artwork into the file (rather than the default image 10seconds into the video) then copy that file to my other WD MyBook Live. Then, using the PS3 connecting to the DLNA service on the WD MyBook Live, the PS3 correctly showed the embedded artwork within the movie file.
However, it seems, i can only do this with with ReadyNas by adding the "cover.jpg" file alongside the movie, when browsing content from the ReadyNas on the PS3. As i've got hundreds of m4v files, it will take me all year to re-do all the artwork (groan). It can't be the PS3 that is at fault, as if I have both the WD MyBook Live and the ReadyNas running with EXACTLY the same file on each device - on the WD MyBook Live it works fine, on the ReadyNas it doesn't (without the cover.jpg file)
Anyone got any ideas why the ReadyNas DNLA doesn't allow the PS3 (or probably other clients) to make use of the embedded artwork?? It would potentially save a lot of people a lot time and hassle not having to mess around with cover.jpg for each individual
I guess this is a question directed specifically at Skywalker of the Jedi Council - out of anyone i'm sure you'll be able to answer :) (here's hoping!)
