In fact I couldn't do a factory default. I had copied the folders which I was able to open and copy and was planning to do a factory default then since I couldn't do it. Now I will copy the folders which were originally accessible before doing a factory default.

Hi,
I am still transferring some data but I have tried to add fuiles to teh system but it doesn't allow me. So there is still a problem.

If you couldn't do the factory default from the boot menu, then I suggest doing it via the web ui. Then reconfigure the NAS and restore the data from a backup.
