A "scratch disk" is a spare disk. It will be formated by the NAS, so it shouldn't contain anything you care about.
An RND4000 should be a diskless RND4225. But it's important to make sure both are sparc platforms. That's why I said to make sure the two chassis are identical (the ARM version of the RND4000 has a black chassis, not silver).

If the old one is silver (as I think it must be), then you can't migrate the disks. The new one is arm-based (called a "v2" here), the silver one is sparc-based (and called a v1 here).
You'll need to recover the data somehow, and then copy it onto the new NAS.
