In any event, a factory reset should be sufficient. If you actually want more than that, then the simplest thing to do is connect the disks to a windows system and zero them using vendor tools (seatools for seagate, lifeguard for western digital).
Unfortunately I was at work so couldn't say the exact version I had other than it was the latest version available for download for a v2 Duo (inc Raidar), which I thought would be listed on the site...sorry
My original plan was to format via Mac disk utility but my sata USB reader couldn't read the HDD's as anything other than 1tb HDD.
