I co-manage a fleet of ReadyNAS devices. The symptoms you describe can be
a- bad PSU or other failing hardware eg RAM
b- disc corruption showing up in bad places
c- bad software
i had a recent example of a NAS I rebuilt 3 times, swapped drives, RAM, then changed out the entire chassis. Eventually it turned out the the Transmission torrenting client was taking the whole thing down. Mad.
