New Features in RAIDiator
I haven't seen any new features in RAIDiator for a long time now. Recently, I had a few months of my ReadyNAS Pro 6 giving me a lot of issues with Netgear's support leaving much to be desired. Even though all of my problems were eventually resolved (some of them were related to advanced RAIDiator features, such as iSCSI), I invariably started looking for an alternative to Netgear's ReadyNAS. One of the competitors is Synology Diskstation. Particularly, I was looking at Diskstation DS 713+. When comparing feature for feature, ReadyNAS has a glaring lack of certain features that Synology products possess. For example, DSM 4.2 (beta) has support for AirPlay and AirPrint, which are absent from RAIDiator. When it comes to enterprise features, DSM has support for VAAI ( vStorage API for Array Integration), which RAIDiator also lacks. In fact, when creating a datastore on a target hosted by Netgear's ReadyNAS, one must turn VAAI off in VMWare, or at least it is something that the Netgear support engineer told me to do. Another feature that RAIDiator is missing (and which is present in DSM) is a syslog server, which is a necessity in a business environment.
Is there any roadmap for adding additional features to RAIDiator, and if so, can someone with Netgear comment on whether Netgear is trying to restore feature parity with their competitors?
I'm under the impression that these features are developed by open source communities and are integrated in NAS firmwares by NAS manufacturers. So, if Synology has already integrated features like AirPlay and AirPrint, they must be available to Netgear as well. VAAI has been released by VMware since 2008, and Syslog servers have been available in Linux for many many years. The competition is catching up with their NAS hardware and performance, and their feature sets have exceeded that of Netgear. So, what's the holdup?
Thanks!

viewtopic.php?f=51&t=67902 - sirozhaAspirantI hate to be a prophet in such a way, but for what it's worth, here's the link to my opinion of Infrant having been sold to Netgear, which I posted on November 26, 2007:
viewtopic.php?p=75006#p75006 - falcorAspirantActually, there is a syslog server already. But if you want to configure syslog-ng with your own options and really go to town with it... I wrote a quick how-to on my website: http://www.netassassin.com/content/readynas-syslog-er-nator-0
