New HDD did not pass SMART

Hi

 

I have just replaced the HDD in my ReadyNAS DUO V2 because the logs were warning me that it kept failing SMART self-assesment (i.e. growing number of errors.) 

 

The old drive was a Seagate ST31000528AS 1TB. So I replaced it with the same. Now I'm getting the same message! Surely it can't be happening on the brand new drive.

 

Is there another reason for these errors? Any Ideas?

    Hi jamiepugh,

     

    Are you sure that the logs pertains to the new drive you have newly purchased?  Perhaps, it could be another drive inside the NAS that is failing.  You may want to double-check the logs again.  

     

    To further isolate the problem, I suggest you to run a disk test on the new Seagate 1TB ST31000528AS drive using the Seagate SeaTools for Windows.  You will need to connect the disk directly to the PC after installing the Sea Tools then make sure to run the Long Generic Test.    You may download the Seagate SeaTools for Windows here.  For the instructions on how to use Sea Tools for Windows, click here.

      I only have one drive in the NAS - the new one.
       
      I will remove the drive and test with seatools as recommended.
