NEWB 2TB + 1TB....? what will happen>?
I have just put one 2TB drive into my NV+2 and its working great, i have realized i have another 1TB sitting about doing nothing and also 2 x 500GB's what would happen if i was to put these into the ...
Manufacturer's measure disk capacity using power of 10 units (1000*1000*1000*1000 bytes is 1 TB). Most computers, including ReadyNAS use power of 2 units (1024*1024*1024*1024 bytes is 1 TB). Converting 5 TB into the "power of 2" units gives you 4.55.
In addition there is space on each disk for the OS partition (4 GB on the x86, not sure about the v2). The x86 also has space for snapshots (I believe the v2 doesn't though).
Anyway, the net is that the overhead is much less than you are thinking.
