Newbie needs some help
Dear all,
I was wondering if someone could offer me some help?
I’ve been asked to look at a friend’s Netgear ReadyNAS box (Model: rndp2210) to see if I can figure out what is wrong with it. The box doesn’t seem to boot up at all. When you press the power button, the fans kick in and the power button lights blue, then the “act” light flashes green a few times and the unit just sits there. The disk activity lights do not come on and when I load the Raidar software it doesn’t find the unit.
After reading the manual I booted it up in the “boot mode”. This seems to work fine but it doesn’t do anything. I have tried to reload the OS and do a factory reset.
When I try to do a factory reset the following happens:
Booted into the “Boot Menu” by holding down the reset button
Pressed the backup button so just the disk 1 LED was lit.
Pressed the reset button again to confirm the factory reset.
All the unit does is power down, comes back on and just sits there with the fans running (no lights at all) Is this correct?
I have tried to boot the device with out any disks inserts/with new replacement disks and it does exactly the same so I think the disks are ok.
Could anyone offer any advice?
Many thanks

- StephenBGuru - Experienced UserYou might check to see if the memory is properly seated.
Any history available on this unit? - timothy_J_OAspirantSorry, no history on it, He just said one day it was working fine, the next day it didn't work at all and software failed to find the device. I'll open it up now and check the memory.
Thanks - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserIf he bought it new, it is possibly under warranty. That could save you a lot of time and effort.
- timothy_J_OAspirantJust re-seated the memory chip, Doesn't look to have made any difference at all.
The unit still sits there with just the fans on and blue Power button lit up. - timothy_J_OAspirantIs there anyway to reload the OS by using the USB?
Or reflashing the firmware using USB?
The only reason I ask is because the boot mode menu seems to work fine so I'm hoping its just lost all its OS. - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserIt can be done, but there is risk that the eprom might get corrupted. So normal advice is not to try it unless support requests it.
So I'd look into the support question first. When was the unit purchased? - timothy_J_OAspirantI'm not sure but I'll about 2 years ago so I think it may be out of warranty but I will check before trying to do any re-flashing.
- StephenBGuru - Experienced UserIt's a pro-2, so the warranty should be 5 years.
But it is non-transferrable, so if he purchased used, then there is no warranty. - timothy_J_OAspirantExcellent, I’ll let him know and arrange a support call.
Just out of interest, is there anyway of rescuing the data? - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserThere are a couple of tools people have used in the forum, though I haven't used them myself. Some will work on a PC.
RStudio is one.
