No Admin Page and Power Button Reset Does not work.

I am using a Readynas R104 with 6.4.2 firmware. The past 2 days, the admin page refuses to appear from a web browser, and when trying to reboot via the power button, nothing happens (no information display on the front panel when power button pushed). The shares are still accessable from Windows Explorer, and I can still read and write to the shares. The first time this happened, I pulled the power plug to get it to reboot/reset, but do not want to keep doing that for fear of screwing up the system. Has anybody had this issue with 6.4.2, and if so, how to work around it without risking a hard power shut down to obtain restart?

  • Problem seems to have gone away, running stable for several days now.

I am on OS6 and have logs from when the problem was happening. Would you like them?

You could enable ssh, and if that responds you can do a restart (or a shutdown) from there.

If the antivirus service enabled?  If so, disable it.

Antivirus is not enabled. Can you provide a link to instructions for enabling ssh and initiation of reboot from ssh?

Also, what do you think the root cause of the loss of admin page and power button response is? Is it a known issue with this firmware version that could be addressed by using a later version beta?

Thanks for the quick response to the issue.

You enable ssh from the system->settings page (in the services section). Once enabled, you connect with putty (or equivalent). The username is root, the password is the NAS admin password.

You shut down with rn_shutdown now  You can reboot with reboot -p
