You're confusing unsigned certificate and unsecure connection.
Your browser is telling you that the SSL certificate was not signed by a Certificate Authority. But that doesn't mean the connection you're currently using is unsecure. It's only that the SSL certificate was self-signed by the NAS. Look in here, there are threads discussing this already. It's expected behavior for a device like a NAS.
Yes, it is technically vulnerable to attacks such as man-in-the-middle, bla bla bla, but let's be honest, it's a LAN device, so if the requirement of a properly signed certificate was mandatory, chances are that you would know how to deal with it.
