(null) folders shown in networked media players

Hi,

I recently purchased the ReadyNAS Pro, and I've been fairly happy with it thus far. I have had some problems with permissions and access denied issues, which I have been able to fix.

But, one problem, which I have not been able to solve, is that my networked media players (PS3, TiVo) show "(null)" folders for some sub-directories in my media/Video share. I've checked and reset the permissions, in case this was the issue, but that did not fix it. I've disabled and re-enabled, rescanned using the ReadyDLNA addon, but I still continue to see these '(null)' folders.

Has anyone else had this problem and how can I fix it? Thanks in advance!

Best Regards,
Patrick

  • when "auto-update" is turned on where? on the client devices or the readynas devices?
  • i actually just did a "rescan of media files" under the dlna section of my readynas device, and this got rid of my (null) folders showing up on my ps3!
  • The auto-update refers to the "Automatically update database." option in the ReadyDLNA setup. Rescanning the media files will get rid of the (null) folders for now, but they will come back.
  • just an update to this thread...after the rescan, i had no more null fulders, and they never did return.
  • I have also had this issue couple with an issue where the automatic updating of folders does not seem to work.
Im not sure if the two are related but would greatly appreciate any fixes for either or both problems.

    Thanks
  • I have this issue also. Readynas ultra 2 and WDTV live.

A manual rescan fixes the problem but it often reoccurs. Usually seems to happen if i am moving files and folders into the readynas streaming folders from my computer
  • I've had the same issue for a log time.

I've opened a bug but did not get any real help

What I plan to do is to leave the automatic update on, but add an extra cront job so that every 2 days
    it does a full rescan.

There is a thread where someone posted the command to do that.
Still, it would be good to have some input from the Ready NAS developers.
  • Can you post the link to the instructions on how to add the proper cron job? I have asked about it before, but never gotten an answer to my satisfaction.
