NV+ 4.1.10 upgrade failed
I have just had a similar problem to others on here after upgrading their NV+ to 4.1.10 - unit says 'Booting....' and then just hangs indefinitely with no sign of activity and cannot be seen RAIDar. I had to perform a USB downgrade to 4.1.8 and the unit is now coming up.
As I'm not alone here, is there an issue with 4.1.10?

- jbartcAspirantI have had the exact same thing happen. Ready NAS NV+ v1 working fine for weeks with 4.1.9. Did the upgrade to 4.1.10, stuck in endless boot cycle. I spent 2 hours on phone with tech support; after trying several ideas we discovered that it would boot if disk four (just happened to be the first disk we attempted to boot without) was not installed. So, tech support declared a bad disk and said to replace it the case number was case #19515186. I thought it was quite a coincidence that I would have a disk failure at the precise time I was rebooting after a firmware upgrade and that we wold pick the "bad" disk on the first try, but I had no reason to dispute the call. Ordered a replacement disk 2nd day shipping; installed it -- hangs on boot again! It will still boot with only three disks. So, I re-installed firmware v. 4.1.9. No luck...it will now boot with four disks installed but it fails every time when trying to sync disk four. I have tried the new and the old disk with identical results. I could surely use some help - fortunately no data was lost but there is no redundancy now.
- maxblackAspirantAny chance you guys have "upgraded" RAM to 1GB? The only time my upgrade attempts have failed was with a 1GB chip installed (which I've subsequently abandoned).
- jbartcAspirantI do have 1 GB memory, but it was purchased with that option new, not a subsequent upgrade to the memory. I purchased my NV+ in 2008 and it has worked flawlessly until this incident.

Hmmm I didn't think you could buy an NV+ from Netgear with 1GB.
Anyway thanks for answering; sorry for your difficulty. I'm going to stick with 4.1.8 myself then. - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredYes quite a while ago now the NV+ (v1) was offered with 1GB pre-installed. Though 1GB is also the most popular RAM upgrade for those who choose to upgrade the RAM in systems that ship with 256MB RAM
- PapaBear1Apprenticejbartec - I would recommend you update your backup or create one if you don't have one. Running with only three of the four disks of an array is not recommended. Once you have a full backup you could try a factory default.
- jbartcAspirantAlready have a full backup, thankfully. Having not heard any other options, I am going to try a factory default.
- christopher2AspirantI did an upgrade to 4.1.10 from 4.1.8 and am having the same endless boot issue. I am literally half a world away (I'm in Manila and the device is home in Canada, Eastern time) from the NV and cannot touch the machine; so, I am at a loss as to how to rectify the issue. How do I get my NV to boot?
- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredIs there anyone with physical access to the unit over in Canada?
- christopher2AspirantMy wife and son have access; but, if it's anything more complicated than powering the unit off and on, they don't have the skills to do it.
