OK. So I did a factory reset again from USB (held down the back reset button for 20+ seconds on reboot), and let it go from there. I started with all four drives in, and set it up as an XRAID. The unit seemed to go through the paces, and everything SEEMED to be working. I changed the IP from dynamic and the hostname, and enabled jumbo frames. Then I rebooted the device. Upon reboot, it's no longer acessible in the web, and now RAIDar shows the firmware as 4.01c1-p6 -- no clue how this happened. The USB stick I have, has the most recent firmware, and the drives were wiped clean with all partitions removed before this latest attempt.
Also, the Netgear support hasn't gotten back to me in almost 4 days, so I'm pretty much left hanging with $800 in drives, and a unit that seems not to accept them no matter what I do.
