NV+ V2 stalling when 80%+ full (20047616)
i've recently purchased one of the Netgear ReadyNAS NV+ V2 units and have become very unhappy with it. it started out ok and could copy files to it at good rate, now that the unit is over 80% full i've been coming accross the smbd stall on IO Wait issue that seems to plague this unit :(
after coming to these fourms i found that there are many other users with the same issues and none of the solutions they have had for them posted around converting to EXT3 has made the copy issues any better for me.
i have linked the other topics i could find with same issues that have been plagueing me so far. i have logged a support case (20047616) with netgear but their "remote access policy" is very bad and i can't agree to it.

- hauser1AspirantWell from the bit of testing things tonight changing the below settings didn't have any effect:
/sys/fs/ext4/dm-0/max_writeback_mb_bump = 4
/sys/fs/ext4/dm-0/mb_max_to_scan = 10
/sys/fs/ext4/dm-0/mb_min_to_scan = 2
/sys/block/dm-0/queue/scheduler = noop anticipatory deadline cfq (each of, it's on cfq by default)
/sys/block/sd[a-d]/queue/scheduler = noop (it's on cfq by default)
each time I copy large files the block allocator shoots up to queueing ~128mb worth of blocks (even tho max_writeback_mb_bump is set for 4mb)
/sys/fs/ext4/dm-0/delayed_allocation_blocks = 32767
from what I can see the “Filesystem_fix_5.3-arm.bin” made available prior changes /sys/fs/ext4/dm-0/mb_max_to_scan = 50. not sure what else it does, the default value for this setting is 200.
all of the above are runtime tweaks which would get reset upon reboot anyway so not really a long term fix (if it worked). - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredOnce a solution that works well is found they could get added to a script that is run every boot.
- ZaimAspirantI still have this issue, its really annoying, the read speeds have dropped to 24mb/s whereas before it was well over 80mb/s at 900GB free.
Please do post when they send you the addon as I will need it too, No way i'm going to let them remote access my NAS, the policy makes me laugh. - rnas_newbieAspirantpretty impressive, 4+months and no acknowledgement there is an wider issue; (back onto the known issues report/log that is so needed...) - cheers Netgear! I'm sure your recent reassurance that you'll continue to support these 'legacy' products will no doubt speed up the resolution.
ps I'd happily beta test a fix as I've a unit doing pretty much nothing at the moment as I've no faith in it, but you don't seem to do beta's anymore. The silence is deafening and as effectively you EOL'd this product before making it fit for purpose.
pps - I also love the design that it rescans my media every time I change a permission of some sort. At least we have some unique features on this model, it helps depreciate such excellent hardware, as these units have so much promise if there was the desire to ensure they were bug free. - robclarke411AspirantHi Hauser, I tried to send you the patch but the email was rejected saying the domain does not exist? I guess the temporary email expired?

ok, just tried another provider iesygnzmusi0q3l@jetable.org and it worked sending to myself. - hauser1Aspirantwell well... NETGEAR are finnaly sending me a "beta" firmware that apperently needs a NDA unlike their other beta firmware that is on these forums allready.
perhaps it might work *doesn't hold hopes to high*
EDIT: well GG NETGEAR... the link i was given downloads a 0byte file... all of that NDA for 0 bytes.. - ihartleyTutorNDA - no data available??? :-) Rather strange to send an NDA for a patch or binary code; maybe they don't want the rest of us to use all our disks. If I had known I needed to buy 3TB disks to use 2TB.....
Keep us posted - and don't go sharing any of those 0 bytes!! - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredAn NDA is Non-Disclosure Agreement.
