NV+ X-RAID expansion resync time frame; case # 18641058

I realize resync could take hours, but my NV+ has been resyncing for 18 days now. I think that might be a little long, so need to know how I should proceed. I've read that I should not shutdown the NV+ while it is resyncing, but how long should I wait? A month? A year? I had four 750 GB drives, and started expanding to 1TB. I've only replaced the 4th drive so far, and the LED's have been blinking for 18 days. I read that the blinking LEDs on the NV+ means the volume is resyncing, but now I'm not so sure. What should I try next?

Also, Frontview is not responding. Before I removed the 4th drive, I enabled journaling and disabled spin down and snapshots.

Which LEDs are blinking? Can you describe the light pattern you see?

What do you see in RAIDar (http://www.readynas.com/downloads) particularly if you hover the mouse over the volume LED? What about on the LCD screen on the front of the unit (if this is off press the power button momentarily to turn the LCD screen back on).

There's no way a resync should take anywhere near that long.

Please open a tech support (http://www.readynas.com/support) case and edit the thread title (i.e. subject of first post in the thread) to include your case number.
  • 1. Can you access the share and frontviewer when the system is re-syncing
    2. The resync process need no more than 24 hours, 18 days is too long, it seems your system is hang.
    3. Maybe there are another disk has ATA errors, so the best solution is reboot this unit to telnet mode and file a online case to netgear support engineer.
    4. It is very important that please hold on the orginal disks, maybe you need the original disk to recover your data.
  • In response to Quinghong's query:

    1) No, the share times out on connection, as does frontview
    2) Agreed.
    3) I submitted a case
    4) I've got the original disk in hand, and I had a backup before proceeding

    In response to mdgm's query:

All 4 disk LEDs are blinking green constantly, 1 or 2 times per second. RAIDar reports "volume C: RAID level X, Dead; 1687 GB (83%)of 2010 GB used". I agree that resync should not take this long.

    I've opened case 18641058.

    Thanks for your support!
